Siemens Government Technologies has secured an $80 million contract from the US Army to build an advanced manufacturing facility for unmanned aircraft system components. The contract includes implementation of industrial digital twins and digital modernisation of an eighty year old manufacturing plant.

The 12-month project involves converting a World War II-era facility into a modern production hub for electric motor stator assemblies. The site will feature digitally connected manufacturing equipment, on-site energy generation, and distributed power systems to ensure operational resilience.

Siemens will deploy digital twin technology to simulate and validate the stator assembly production lines prior to physical installation. The infrastructure upgrade also includes the integration of fire and life safety systems alongside energy storage capabilities.

John Ustica, chief executive of Siemens Government Technologies, said the project would allow the Army to control its own production environment and accelerate development for next-generation unmanned aircraft systems.
