Milwaukee-based Rockwell Automation has integrated NVIDIA’s Nemotron Nano, a purpose-built small language model (SLM), into its FactoryTalk Design Studio. The integration aims to bring real-time intelligence and control to industrial teams in various environments.

According to Rockwell, the collaboration with NVIDIA employs the open-source Nemotron-Nano-9B-v2 model and NVIDIA NeMo to deliver an edge-based generative AI capability for industrial settings. The model is optimised for use on HMI panels, appliances, desktop IDEs, and server or private cloud environments.

“Industrial automation demands AI that works reliably at the edge and in secure environments,” said Tony Carrara, FactoryTalk Design Studio business manager at Rockwell Automation. “We’re creating solutions that can be deployed anywhere to help our customers accelerate workflows without compromising predictability or control.”
