NXP has acquired German industrial networking firm Port GmbH. The acquisition adds a range of industrial protocol stacks for the major industrial protocols. The move is aimed at deepening NXP’s industrial edge profile and strengthen its ability to provide Industry 4.0-ready solutions.

Port GmbH has more than 500 customers worldwide. Its middleware platform, Generic Open Abstraction Layer (GOAL), enables multiprotocol support across a range of hardware platforms. Its portfolio includes protocol stacks for widely used technologies, such as PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, Modbus, POWERLINK, CANopen and others. Port GmbH also support emerging standards like time-sensitive networking (TSN) and open platform communications unified architecture (OPC-UA), which are helping drive greater interoperability across industrial systems.
