Mitsubishi Electric and Sony Semiconductor Solutions are establishing a joint venture to develop vision sensor solutions for the manufacturing industry.

The new company, named Advanced Vision Solutions Co., Ltd., is scheduled to begin operations in October 2026. It will focus on creating sensors that perform data analysis directly on the hardware to monitor conditions at manufacturing sites that are traditionally difficult to visualise.

The partnership will combine Sony’s image sensor technology with Mitsubishi Electric’s factory automation control systems. The goal is to enable manufacturing equipment to capture real-time data on product quality and equipment maintenance, allowing for autonomous adjustments with minimal human intervention.

The companies stated that the joint venture aims to support “unmanned operations” by connecting visual data directly to machine decision-making and control systems. The establishment of the entity remains subject to regulatory approvals.

The venture will target the automation of both manufacturing equipment and manual operations. By processing data at the “edge” on the sensor itself, the companies intend to reduce the time required for machines to react to changes on the production line.
