The State of Louisiana has partnered Persona AI to launch a pilot programme testing humanoid robots in active heavy-industry environments. The initiative aims to collect data on the feasibility of using humanoid systems in complex, dynamic industrial settings.
According to the partnership’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), Persona AI will supply its upcoming release of rugged humanoid platforms for testing at SSE Steel Fabrication’s fabrication facility in St. Bernard Parish. The pilot is expected to inform how humanoid robots can perceive, move, and work alongside skilled workers in industries facing labour shortages.
The State of Louisiana, through Louisiana Innovation, is facilitating the partnership with support from Greater New Orleans, Inc. Industry leaders emphasise that adoption of humanoid robotics can create new roles while transforming existing ones, expanding demand for specialised technicians and workers trained to work alongside advanced machines.
“This collaboration will allow us to explore emerging technologies where they matter most, on the shop floor,” said Justin Airhart, Chief Operations Officer of SSE Steel Fabrication. “We’re focused on innovation in service of safety, productivity, and workforce sustainability.”
The pilot is part of broader national momentum around humanoid robotics development across manufacturing, maritime, energy, defence, and infrastructure sectors.
Persona AI, headquartered in Houston, Texas, is developing humanoid robots purpose-built for tasks deemed “4D” – dull, dirty, dangerous, and declining. The State of Louisiana views this partnership as a foundational step toward scaling humanoid robotics across core industries and establishing the state as a national proving ground for next-generation industrial work.
SSE Steel Fabrication is an AISC-certified steel fabrication contractor located in St Bernard, Louisiana, specialising in structural fabrication.
