LG Electronics has opened a $310 million (BRL 1.5 billion) smart factory in Paraná, Brazil, integrating industrial robotics and automated inspection systems into its production lines.

The 770,000-square-metre facility serves as LG’s second production base in the country and has an annual capacity of approximately 600,000 refrigerators. The production line is configured to manufacture one unit every 14 seconds, focusing on models adapted to Brazil’s bi-voltage electrical standards (127V and 220V) and local climatic conditions.

The Paraná plant utilises smart manufacturing technologies, including vision-based inspection systems and articulated robots. The robotics are deployed to handle physically demanding tasks, such as transporting refrigerator doors, to standardise process stability and improve workplace safety.

The facility is intended to function as a strategic production and export hub for Latin America, reducing delivery times by up to 80 per cent and decreasing the company’s reliance on imports.

“The new Paraná factory strengthens our production capabilities, enabling us to ensure a stable product supply and deliver appliances tailored to the evolving needs of consumers in Brazil and across Latin America,” Baek Seung-tae, president of the LG Home Appliance Solution Company, said.
