HD Hyundai Robotics is supplying its ArcLift GO robotic welding solutions to Chouest Group shipyards covering three facilities in North America and one in Brazil, marking the company’s entry into the US shipyard automation market.

The ArcLift GO system is designed to provide uniform weld quality and reduce the industry’s reliance on highly skilled manual labour. The robots use intuitive operating software that allows a single operator to manage two or three units simultaneously, even without extensive prior robotics experience.

The deal addresses a structural shortage of skilled welders in the US shipbuilding sector, which has constrained productivity. HD Hyundai Robotics USA, based in Georgia, led the project coordination. The initiative is linked to the MASGA project, which focuses on advancing shipbuilding productivity through automation.

The company said in a statement that the technology serves as a practical solution to labour challenges, allowing robots to complement skilled labour through process optimisation.

HD Hyundai Robotics plans to use this contract as a reference for further expansion into the North American maritime supply chain. The company’s parent group is also exploring broader cooperation in the U.S., including the joint construction of commercial vessels and the integration of robotics into shipyard infrastructure.
