Beckhoff Automation has introduced a suite of AI-supported engineering tools and Linux-based control methods for industrial automation. The updates focus on the TwinCAT 3 CoAgent, an AI assistant designed to aid developers in project planning, maintenance, and code generation.

The CoAgent tool provides language-based suggestions for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs). Beckhoff stated the tool is intended to reduce time spent on routine tasks and assist in fault diagnostics during industrial operations.

The company has also announced a shift toward hardware-independent architectures with TwinCAT for Linux and virtual PLCs (VPLCs). This container-based approach allows software functions to be distributed across different systems, centralising updates and reducing maintenance costs through MQTT-based IoT integration.

Beckhoff has recently showcased new hardware, including:

  • C60xx ultra-compact Industrial PCs: Fanless devices ranging from Intel Atom to Intel Core processors.
  • CP46xx and CP56xx HMIs: Multi-touch panels available in sizes from 7 to 23.8 inches.
  • Arm-based and Intel-based processing options for intuitive machine interaction.

These developments target system architects requiring scalable control systems for complex embedded environments. The new HMI generation includes push-button extensions with integrated EtherCAT and Fail Safe over EtherCAT (FSoE) capabilities.
