Semiconductor company Aeonsemi has launched a new family of high-speed Ethernet chips designed to connect sensors, cameras, and actuators in AI-driven industrial robots and automated manufacturing systems.
The Praxium family of transceivers provides data transfer rates of up to 10 gigabits per second. They are designed to operate over lightweight, flexible cabling, including coaxial and miniature twinax cables. This allows industrial engineers to route high-speed network connections through the space-constrained, moving mechanical joints of robotic arms without the weight and rigidity of standard enterprise Ethernet cables.
“We believe Praxium PHYs make standards-based multi-gigabit Ethernet practical for a much broader class of Physical AI systems, including humanoid robots, autonomous machines and industrial automation,” said Yunteng Huang, chief executive of Aeonsemi.
The hardware is based on the IEEE 802.3ch standard, which was originally developed to handle high-speed sensor data in autonomous vehicles. Aeonsemi is deploying the technology for the industrial sector, where automated machinery requires the same combination of high bandwidth, low latency, and resistance to electromagnetic interference found on factory floors.
The chips also support Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) and precision time synchronisation. This ensures that data from multiple distributed sensors and cameras can be processed simultaneously, allowing central computing systems to coordinate the movements of various robotic actuators in real time.
The single-port devices are packaged in a compact 6 by 6-millimetre footprint, enabling manufacturers to design smaller sensors and media converters. Volume production is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.
