Hong Kong health-tech innovator ThingX has developed a wearable pendant that translates real-time biometric and environmental signals into actionable emotional insights.
Built on 20 years of multimodal sensing research, the Nuna smart pendant can help users cultivate mindfulness, emotional clarity and personal growth, all while keeping data fully private on-device. More than a tracker, it is said to be a calm, caring mirror for the inner self, where mindful design and embedded AI meet to support whole-person wellbeing.
Unlike traditional wearables that track fitness-related physiological indicators, Nuna is designed to understand the wearer’s emotional state.
The pendant uses embedded AI to analyse how speech is expressed, capturing tone, pace and energy to detect subtle emotional shifts, while continuously monitoring environmental cues through multimodal sensing technology to reveal how surroundings influence mood. By analysing breathing and cardiac rhythms contactlessly, the mm-wave radar delivers a continuous stream of physiological data for the discreet assessment of stress-related anomalies.
Leveraging multimodal inputs from voice patterns and environmental context to physiological signals, Nuna generates a continuous, on-device snapshot of emotional states, safeguarding data privacy at every step.
The multimodal AI architecture can understand and reflect human emotions in real time. At its core, it integrates physiological-based and voice-based emotion analysis into a seamless multimodal sensing framework. It decodes micro-movements, breath, heart rhythms and vocal subtleties while translating them into instant emotional intelligence, without ever leaving the body’s private sphere.
Features include:
- Emotion tracking: Monitors emotional states continuously, helping wearers notice patterns and triggers.
- Moments: Automatically logs daily reflections, creating a seamless emotional diary.
- Mindfulness assistance: Guides gentle meditation and breathing exercises, supporting mental balance.
- NunaPulse: Subtle vibration cues designed to calm, soothe and anchor attention.
- Emotion report: Provides a visual summary of emotional trends, including silence duration, speaking patterns and emotion proportions.
Originally codenamed PieX (personal index), the device began as an academic prototype. Two years of design and user research transformed it into something more than just smarter. It became more human-centred, designed to fit seamlessly into everyday life.
Available for limited pre-order with a suggested price in the USA of $300, each pendant includes a companion app offering daily emotional insights, ambient mood visualisations, and gentle journaling and mindfulness tools. Early adopters will receive exclusive insights and gifts, early shipment, and additional app features.
“This is more than a product launch,” said Ernest X., founder of Nuna (nunatechnology.com). “It marks the start of a movement for emotional wellbeing, powered by on-device embedded AI, multimodal sensing and mm-wave radar, delivering real-time emotional intelligence while keeping your data fully private.”
