Google Cloud LLMs, Machine Learning & Generative AI: Oh, my!

Just last week, however, Google Cloud shared at HIMMSS24 its latest endeavors into Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), particularly of interest is its VertexAI platform and MedLM’s ability to enhance chest X-rays with instant access to patient data via embedded APIs in an app.
The use of Large Language Models (LLMs) in training Generative AI is only increasing as new models are used to innovate across a variety of sectors, especially healthcare. Being able to not only extract patient data from remote monitoring and telehealth devices, but create contextual, real-time insights can enhance the ability of clinicians to respond to patient needs quickly but possibly proactively as well.
Predictive healthcare maintenance may not quite be here yet, but we’re getting close. As more smart devices finely detect and collect more data points throughout the duration of care for a patient – in tandem with LLMs, Generative AI, and advanced ML, clinicians could not only reduce reaction times, but even begin to predict individual patient needs.
Personalized care means more data, means interoperability amongst medical devices to not only collect that data but manage it across data sources, and then glean meaningful, real-time insights instantly. And with advancements like Google Cloud’s latest platforms and tools, clinicians are one step closer to making it happen worldwide.
