IoT Days Fall: SIM Technology
Event Detail
The Year of the iSIM
The iSIM landscape is reaching a pivotal moment as major IoT chipset manufacturers increasingly ship silicon that supports integrated SIM functionality, and large telecommunications providers continue to standardize iSIM provisioning. By embedding SIM capabilities directly into firmware, hardware costs are reduced, power consumption can drop by 20–30%, and more rugged device designs become feasible for remote and harsh environments. The ecosystem is also expanding to include certified iSIMs for 5G RedCap, satellite connectivity, and secure cloud onboarding, positioning iSIM as a foundational technology for the next generation of IoT devices.
SGP.32 Allows the eSIM to Take Over the World
Analysts estimate that 70% of all wireless devices will soon be “eSIM-only/first”, marking an inflection point for the IoT sector. eSIMs eliminate the need for manual SIM-swapping, country-specific SKUs, and carrier-specific provisioning, all while providing greatly enhanced security. SGP.32 sets the basic spec, SGP.41 will allow for consumer platform switching, and convergence for eSIM, iSIM, and Cloud SIM is on the way!
